I got the following e-mail from Bryan Falchuk T'06 about a new web site for the Tuck community.

I'm a Tuck 2006, and have built a web community for current students, alumni, partners, faculty and staff, and wanted to share it with you and your class. It's called TuckWorld.net. It's a place where Tuckies can share news, stay in touch, plan events, network for jobs (the Career Office will be posting in the site regularly), and more. I have the support of the school, and have launched it to current students already. I think there's more value in the concept for alumni, so I was hoping you both would be willing to help me announce it to your class.

For alumni, I think a great use is event planning. While there are several local Tuck clubs, what if you're traveling out of town, and want to get together with other Tuckies, or see if there's a Tuck event where you're going? Currently, there's really nowhere to look for something like that. There's also no way to share news like births, marriages and other milestones like alumni could while still here (in Stell or through the Tuck Times). Lastly, we're giving away an iPod, so if nothing else, there's always that!

I'd love to have your help on this however you are willing to provide it.

To the Tuck community and all Tuck alumni:

I am writing to tell you about our plans for a memorial service and a memory book for Professor John Shank. In case you did not receive my previous email, and have not heard otherwise about this sad event, Professor John Shank passed away on Thursday, March 30, in California. We invite you to come together at Tuck on May 21 and remember a truly great professor.

Professor Shank affected many students, faculty members, friends, and business leaders over the course of his life and academic career, and we would like to remember him with a service at Tuck. The memorial service in his memory will take place on Sunday, May 21, at the Tuck School (Cohen Great Hall, in Whittemore). There will be an open brunch available in Pepsi Dining Hall from 10-11, and the service will run from 11:30am-1:00 pm. A small group of John's friends and colleagues are organizing the
event.

Please RSVP to this account so that we can estimate attendance. As this is Tuck reunion weekend, we know that many alumni will be in Hanover already; we hope that the timing of this service fits your travel plans as well.

Finally, many people have asked about sending cards and notes that speak to John's influence. We are suggesting that people send hard copy of any such notes to:

As you may recall, Kotaro Tanaka is working at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London. He recently attended a conference about aid for the Caucasus and Central Asia and his intervention is quoted in their website.

I am deeply saddened to report that our colleague and friend Professor
John Shank passed away Thursday morning in California.

Professor Shank touched the lives of thousands of students, faculty
members and business leaders over the course of his academic career at
Harvard, Tuck, Ohio State, Babson, and the Naval Post Graduate School.
John joined Tuck in 1984 and just recently retired as the Noble
Professor of Managerial Accounting and Management Control, Emeritus.

Many graduates over his twenty year career at Tuck will remember his
incredible presence in the classroom and his amazing intellect. He
published 16 books and wrote more than 100 articles for leading
journals in accounting, finance and management. Far from complete
retirement, John was still writing and teaching, and he had just
joined the Board of Directors of Lazard, Ltd. John is survived by his
wife Diane and three sons. Their home is in Southern California.

John was a core member of the Tuck family, a mentor and friend to
many, and a passionate soul who had an impact on all that he met. We
will miss him deeply.
